GeoSim Technologies has developed Vulcan, a dynamic aerial firefighting simulation environment designed to work with the GeoSim simulator range and X-Plane 12.

Developed with input from experienced aerial firefighting pilots and fire officers, Vulcan allows crews to train against fires that behave dynamically according to wind, temperature, humidity, terrain and fuel conditions. Fire growth, smoke, turbulence and visibility can change throughout the mission, while water, foam, gel and retardant drops produce different effects on both the fire and aircraft performance.

Vulcan supports both scripted exercises and dynamic scenarios, allowing actual or anticipated fire conditions to be recreated for mission rehearsal before crews deploy.

Its multiplayer capability can connect up to 20 simulation devices, allowing pilots, Fire Attack Supervisors and command personnel in different locations—even different countries—to train together within the same fire environment.

The objective is simple: rehearse the mission, practise the decisions and experience the hazards before facing the real fire.
